Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced that Sudeep Kunnumal has officially taken charge as the company’s Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), following the retirement of Milind Lakkad. In a regulatory filing, the IT major noted that Kunnumal, who was named CHRO-designate in March 2025, has now taken charge of the position.
“Sudeep Kunnumal has been appointed as Chief Human Resources Officer Designate with effect from March 14, 2025, and will take over as Chief Human Resources Officer upon superannuation of Milind Lakkad,” the filing stated.
Sudeep Kunnumal, has been associated with TCS since 2000. He has served in several HR leadership capacities across North America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region, and most recently headed the HR function for the company’s Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) business — a vertical that contributes around 35–40% of TCS’s overall revenue.
According to the company’s filing, “In the domains of talent management and leadership development, he has partnered closely with business leaders to identify, nurture, and retain high-potential talent. By leveraging advanced technologies and AI, he has implemented dynamic talent marketplace solutions in BFSI that optimize resource deployment, improve agility, and unlock untapped potential within the workforce.”
TCS also credited Kunnumal for initiatives that have modernized its people strategy. Notably, he led CodeVita, a global programming competition that earned a Guinness World Record and transformed the company’s approach to campus hiring.
The leadership change comes as TCS, India’s largest IT services provider, continues to oversee a global workforce of over 600,000 employees.
